Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find what you're looking for?

What should I wear?

Full-length or cropped leggings are perfect for yoga, preferably in a darker colour so that you don't have to worry about them being see-through in the more revealing poses. If you've had your leggings for a while, check for thin or warn material and holes!

Go for a well-fitted t-shirt, vest or crop top that's not too revealing and won't slide up over your head! Ladies, choose a top that supports your body type. Some yoga tops have built-in bust support or wear a good sports bra underneath.

Wear light coloured clothing if you think you'll get sweaty!

Choose close-fitting fabric if you want some added "traction" for those balancing poses.

Do I need to bring a mat or equipment?

No. We have all the mats, bolsters, blocks and blankets you could ever need. Our studio is extremely well equipped for all our classes, courses, workshops and events.

Please feel free to bring your own mat, however, if you would like a little extra padding.

You might also consider bringing a water bottle and a small towel for our tougher classes.

Can I book online?

Yes. You can book our classes, courses, events and workshops online. If you're new to Proper Northern Yoga, you'll be asked to register at the time of booking.

New for 2019 is the Proper Northern Yoga App. Now you can take us with you and manage your bookings on the go!

If the class you want is full, add yourself to the waiting list, and we'll let you know if space becomes available.

Please note: To ensure the best use of studio time and resources we do not take any payments or bookings in person.

Which classes are suitable for beginners?

Do you run beginner courses?

Yes we do. Keep an eye on our beginners page for more info and upcoming dates. All booking and payments are taken online and we even have mats for you to use.

If you would prefer to start with a one-to-one session to gain some knowledge and build your confidence, we can do that too. Just ask.

How much is a class?

Class prices will be listed on our various timetables and we have several session block and membership options to make your yoga even more accessible.

We don’t charge for mat hire or equipment use.

Do I have to use my session blocks consecutively?

No. All our session blocks have an extended expiry date so you can use them whenever you like for whichever class up until then.

Where are you located?

Located on the southern edge of the Lake District in the lovely market town of Kendal, you'll find us just off Aynam Road, directly above Westmorland Crossfit in The Factory business hub.

For directions, parking, etc. check the Find Us page.

Is there parking on site?

Yes. There are spaces available onsite but between 9 am and 5 pm things can get a little hectic, so please allow extra time in case you need to park elsewhere.

There is free parking on nearby streets or, worst case scenario, there is K Village parking or Abbot Hall pay and display car parks on the one-way system and just a few minutes walk away.
